New Member Orientation
One of our trained staff will provide a fitness orientation to familiarize you with the machines in the wellness center. Information on basic training principles will be presented, as well as instruction and demonstration of proper technique, form and general use of the strength training and cardio machines. Please schedule an appointment in the Wellness Center. Free to YMCA Members!

Wellness Center Rules

  1. Wear fitness apparel for your safety; closed toe, laced athletic footwear is required in the gym at all times!
  2. Bring your own towel and water bottle.
  3. No open containers allowed in the gym.
  4. Please be courteous and allow others to work in during your workouts.
  5. Use collars, DO NOT DROP and re-rack all free-weights!
  6. 25 minute limit on all cardiovascular machines.
  7. For the safety of all, baby strollers/carriers are not allowed in the free-weight section, will not be allowed in the fitness facility during peak hours, and no child may be carried on a treadmill during a workout. Please utilize child watch when possible.

Teen & Youth Policy
Our Teen & Youth Policy is strictly enforced to ensure the safety of all of our members.

Teens ages 13-15 may workout in the wellness center on everything except free weights after they go through a teen fitness training orientation. The orientation will teach the teen the rules of the wellness center, gym etiquette, warm-up, cool down, injury prevention and working out on the cardio, cybex, magnum and Freemotion equipment. The teen may workout if an adult is present and with the teen at all times.

Teens ages 16 and older can workout in the wellness center on all of the equipment at any time; however, we do encourage teens to schedule an orientation to get acquainted with the equipment.

All Youth ages 8-12 may workout on the Youth Circuit equipment during designated Youth Circuit Fitness Hours: Monday, Wednesday, Friday 3-7pm and Saturday 11am-4pm. The youth must complete an orientation with our staff and learn the rules and safety guidelines prior to working out. Parent/guardian must remain with the child the entire time.

Any teen or youth will not be allowed to workout if they are not following the rules.

Children ages 10+ may attend any of the FREE group exercise classes offered with their parent/guardian.

Childwatch Service

with a Family Membership

As a family member, Childwatch services are available for a maximum of 1.5 hours at North Central Florida YMCA. Children will play games, watch videos, and have fun under the supervision of YMCA staff and volunteers. The ages that the YMCA is able to accommodate are 6 months to 11 year olds. Please limit your time to 1.5 hours.

Group Fitness Classes

Challenge yourself to exercising with/without music in a group setting and learn how to condition the spirit, mind and body to become healthy. All classes are led by certified instructors and open to all, including ages 10-13 if accompanied by a parent/guardian. Find a description of each of our classes below.

Class Descriptions

YOGA & MIND/BODY CLASSES

Flow Yoga:
This Yoga is Flow for flexibility and strength. We begin with mind body connection and move with breath. We clean out mental clutter and create a space for deep relaxation.

Restorative Yoga:
Conscious mindful breathing is an essential aspect of the exercises. We begin with loosening exercises followed by various “Asanas” or body postures and relaxation.

Therapeutic Yoga:
An integrative approach that incorporates body postures, conscious mindful breathing and guided relaxation for healing. Mind sound resonance technique is used for therapy.

Yoga Pranayama:
A yoga practice that includes body postures, conscious mindful breathing and guided relaxation.

PiYo:
PiYo is a high intensity low impact workout that provides the benefits of Pilates and yoga combined.

Yoga/Pilates:
Yoga poses are connected in a sequence with the breath to increase strength and flexibility and improve balance and coordination.

Barre/Pilates/Yoga:
This special fusion class includes ballet barre fitness; free weights and yoga that will help you harmonize your body and mind in your exercise that brings joy to movement.

Simple Stretch:
A 45 min. class focusing on increasing flexibility in. Class will also include relaxation. Suitable for all levels.

Silver Sneakers Yoga Stretch:
Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement.

Tai Ch:
Classes utilize evidence based programs that have positive impact on chronic musculoskeletal pain, dementia, falls and related risks.

Zumba is an exhilarating, effective, easy-to-follow, Latin-inspired, calorie-burning dance fitness-part™ that's moving millions of people toward joy and health. Perfect For everybody and every body! Each Zumba® class is designed to bring people together to sweat it on.

We take the "work" out of workout, by mixing low-intensity and high-intensity moves for an interval-style, calorie-burning dance fitness party. Aqua Zumba:
Perfect For Those looking to make a splash by adding a low-impact, high-energy aquatic exercise to their fitness routine. Aqua Zumba® blends the Zumba® philosophy with water resistance, for one pool party you shouldn’t miss! There is less impact on your joints during an Aqua Zumba® class so you can really let loose. Water creates natural resistance, which means every step is more challenging and helps tone your muscles.

Zumba Gold:
Perfect for active older adults who are looking for a modified Zumba® class that recreates the original moves you love at a lower-intensity. The design of the class introduces easy-to-follow Zumba® choreography that focuses on balance, range of motion and coordination. Come ready to sweat, and prepare to leave empowered and feeling strong. Class focuses on all elements of fitness: cardiovascular, muscular conditioning, flexibility and balance!

Silver Sneakers

The SilverSneakers® Fitness Program is the nation's leading exercise program designed exclusively for older adults. This membership provides access to everything the North Central Florida YMCA has to offer. The classes will use certified instructors to help guide participants through exercises that focus on strength, flexibility, mobility, range of motion, balance, agility, and coordination to improve activities for daily living. All members are welcome to come and join in on the fun.

Stability:
This class is for active older adults. Build strength in hip joints, ankles and knees.

Splash:
Improve agility, flexibility, and increase cardiovascular fitness, strength and endurance. Aquatic equipment will be used. No Swimming is required.

Yoga Stretch:
Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement

Muscular Strength & Full Range of Motion:
Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, full range of motion, and activities for daily living skills. 

Seniors

Cardio, Strength & Toning Classes

Ab Blast: 
15 minute class focusing on strengthening abdominal and lateral flexors, back extensors, and core stabilizer to improve torso appearance and function.

Cardio Blast: 
Three 20 minute segments of low and high impact aerobics, step drills, and endurance exercises.

Circuit Breaker:
This intense total body workout combines aerobic and strength training segments. Focus is on balance, agility, speed, and strength.

H.I.I.T. (High Intensity interval Training): 
Get your heart pumping and fire up your metabolism with short, intense bursts of exercise followed by a recovery period.

Kick Boxing:
This class blends elements of kickboxing, athletic conditionings drills, and flexibility training for a full body workout

LBM Boot Camp:
This class focuses on gaining and sustaining Lean Body Mass. Our instructor has a background in martial arts background and trains his students how to take optimal care of their body and mind.

Muscle-Up Fitness:
This strength training class will consist of a combination of free weights along with the use of medicine ball & core strengthening.

Total Body:
This resistance exercise class strengthens your entire body. Free weight exercises, squats, presses, all major muscle groups. 


Water Aerobics

Silver Sneakers Splash:

Regardless of your fitness level, you will get a great workout in our pool. Our instructors offer modifications to increase or decrease the intensity.
