Congratulations on choosing to make a healthy lifestyle change, and selecting the Northwood YMCA to help you on your way! Our staff and members are available to provide you with all of the tools for a lasting lifestyle change: caring facilitators, group support, relationships and healthy activities. By combining all of these elements, we create the supportive environment that we all need when seeking to make lasting changes in our lives.

Childwatch Service - with a Family Membership

As a family member, Childwatch services are available for a maximum of 1.5 hours at Northwood YMCA. Children will play games, watch videos, and have fun under the supervision of YMCA staff and volunteers. The ages that the YMCA is able to accommodate are 6 months to 11 year olds. Please limit your time to 1.5 hours.

Wellness Center Rules

  1. Wear fitness apparel for your safety; closed toe, laced athletic footwear is required in the gym at all times!
  2. Bring your own towel and water bottle.
  3. No open containers allowed in the gym.
  4. Please be courteous and allow others to work in during your workouts.
  5. Use collars, DO NOT DROP and re-rack all free-weights!
  6. 25 minute limit on all cardiovascular machines.
  7. For the safety of all, baby strollers/carriers are not allowed in the free-weight section, will not be allowed in the fitness facility during peak hours, and no child may be carried on a treadmill during a workout. Please utilize child watch when possible.

Children must be members of the YMCA to attend child watch. Up to 1.5 hours free for your convenience while you workout! Staff qualified and trained in quality childcare.

Teen & Youth Policy

Our Teen & Youth Policy is strictly enforced to ensure the safety of all of our members.

Teens ages 13-15 may workout in the wellness center on everything except free weights after they go through a teen fitness training orientation. The orientation will teach the teen the rules of the wellness center, gym etiquette, warm-up, cool down, injury prevention and working out on the cardio, cybex, magnum and Freemotion equipment. The teen may workout if an adult is present and with the teen at all times.

Teens ages 16 and older can workout in the wellness center on all of the equipment at any time; however, we do encourage teens to schedule an orientation to get acquainted with the equipment.

All Youth ages 8-12 may workout on the Youth Circuit equipment during designated Youth Circuit Fitness Hours: Monday, Wednesday, Friday 3-7pm and Saturday 11am-4pm. The youth must complete an orientation with our staff and learn the rules and safety guidelines prior to working out. Parent/guardian must remain with the child the entire time.

Any teen or youth will not be allowed to workout if they are not following the rules.

Children ages 10+ may attend any of the FREE group exercise classes offered with their parent/guardian.

New Member Orientation
One of our trained staff will provide a fitness orientation to familiarize you with the machines in the wellness center. Information on basic training principles will be presented, as well as instruction and demonstration of proper technique, form and general use of the strength training and cardio machines. Please schedule an appointment in the Wellness Center. Free to YMCA Members!

Group Exercise Classes
Challenge yourself to exercising with/without music in a group setting and learn how to condition the spirit, mind and body to become healthy. All classes are led by certified instructors and open to all, including ages 10-13 if accompanied by a parent/guardian.

Personal Training

Let our personal trainers help you achieve your fitness goals! Our trainers continue to raise the bar of excellence in personal training. They are enthusiastic about educating you with the most up-to-date information and training techniques. Let us help you improve your cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength and endurance, core strength, functional fitness, and overall personal health.

Fees: $33 hour/person, $125 4 hours/person, $275 10 hours/person

Silver Sneakers ®

The SilverSneakers® Fitness Program is the nation's leading exercise program designed exclusively for older adults. This membership provides access to everything the Northwood Branch has to offer. The classes will use certified instructors to help guide participants through exercises that focus on strength, flexibility, mobility, range of motion, balance, agility, and coordination to improve activities for daily living. SilverSneakers® Muscular Strength and Range of Motion classes are offered on Tuesday and Thursday at 10:30am and Saturday at 11:30am. Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of motion, and activity for daily living skills. All members are welcome to come and join in on the fun.

Zumba Zumba®
Perfect For Everybody and every body! Each Zumba® class is designed to bring people together to sweat it on.

How It Works
We take the "work" out of workout, by mixing low-intensity and high-intensity moves for an interval-style, calorie-burning dance fitness party. Once the Latin and World rhythms take over, you'll see why Zumba® Fitness classes are often called exercise in disguise. Super effective? Check. Super fun? Check and check.

Aqua Zumba Aqua Zumba®

Zumba Gold Zumba Gold®
Perfect For Active older adults who are looking for a modified Zumba® class that recreates the original moves you love at a lower-intensity.

The design of the class introduces easy-to-follow Zumba® choreography that focuses on balance, range of motion and coordination. Come ready to sweat, and prepare to leave empowered and feeling strong.

Boot Camp

NCF YMCA offers Boot Camp options Monday through Saturday.

Joseph’s LBM boot camp focuses on gaining and sustaining Lean Body Mass. He practices what he teaches. Joseph is a personal trainer with a martial arts background. He trains his students how to take optimal care of their body and mind.

LBM meets 3 times per week, Mondays at 7PM, Wednesdays at 6:30 and Fridays at 7PM in Aerobics Room 2. Pre-registration is required.

YB Fit Camp & Nutrition Club meets Monday thru Saturday for LUNCH in our Wellness Lobby and has open enrollment for the 90 days. Choose 3 Days a week that works best for your mid-day break! Monday, Wednesday, Friday OR Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday sessions are currently available.

YB Fit Camp & Nutrition Club includes your choice of either a calorie-burning herbal tea BEFORE your workout or a meal replacement recovery shake AFTER your workout. Contact Alisha in Wellness for more information and for your wellness assessment prior to taking the class.

Healthy

THRIVE - Physical Education and Mind/Body Connection Course for Kids!

THRIVE will help kids strengthen their cardio- vascular health, musculature strength, endurance, flexibility, coordination, and balance! Healthy children become healthy adults!

Participants will learn ways to create and sustain healthy patterns with ac-tivities, functional movement and optimal nutrition while learning HOW the body, mind, and breath works interdependently as ONE system! (Course is designed for children ages 4-15 )
