Frequently Asked Questions

1. How much do swim lessons cost?
Swim lessons are $60 for members and $80 for non-members.

2.  How long are the lessons?
They are half hour swim lessons unless otherwise stated.  (i.e. adult, pre-competitive, etc.)

3.  How long is a session of swim lessons?
A session is 4 weeks, this will include 8 lessons, Tuesdays and Thursdays for the 4 weeks.

4.  Why don’t lessons run on Friday?
Fridays are set aside for make-up days.  If a class is canceled then we will have class on Friday at the same time.

5.  How will we know if class has been canceled?
We do not cancel lessons over the phone.  If it does rain class will resume as long as the lifeguards tell us it is safe.  If the lifeguards close the pool due to inclement weather then we will have a safety lecture.  The safety lecture is part of the class and will be done the first time we get called out of the pool or the last day of class which ever comes first.  In the case we have already had a safety lecture and get called out then class will be canceled and made up on that Friday.

6.  Which class should I sign up for?
Try to use the descriptions for the classes for the first time you sign up for swim lessons.  After completion of the first session of lessons you will receive a certificate from the instructor this will not only have a check list of things accomplished in the class but will also include comments from the instructor and which class you should sign up for next time.

7.  How many people will be in each class?
We have capped most of our classes at 6 per class.  (Exceptions would include Pre-competitive and parent-tot)

8.  Will make-ups be available for personal reasons?
No.  The YMCA is not obligated to make up swim lessons that were missed for personal reasons.

9.  Are private swim lessons available?
Yes.  The YMCA does offer private swim lessons.  Private lesson request forms are available at the front desk.  Remember these are request forms; this is not a normal program run by the YMCA.  Individual instructors will look at the request forms and if they think they can do it they will give you a call and set up a time that is convenient for both of you.  The YMCA apologizes if this process takes longer than expected our instructors are encouraged to do private lessons but they have busy schedules as well.

10.  How much do private lessons cost?
They are $30 an hour for members and $35 an hour for non-members.  They are offered in half hour lessons.  So $30/$35 would get 2 half hour lessons.
