Wellness Center Rules
- Wear fitness apparel for your safety; closed toe, laced athletic footwear is
required in the gym at all times!
- Bring your own towel and water bottle.
- No open containers allowed in the gym.
- Please be courteous and allow others to work in during your workouts.
- Use collars, DO NOT DROP and re-rack all free-weights!
- 25 minute limit on all cardiovascular machines.
- For the safety of all, baby strollers/carriers are not allowed in the free-weight section,
will not be allowed in the fitness facility during peak hours, and no child may be
carried on a treadmill during a workout. Please utilize child watch when possible.
SILVERSNEAKERS®
SILVERSNEAKERS® is a program offered by Humana Ins. and is now available at the Northwood, McGurn and Putnam County YMCA locations. If you currently have Humana Ins. or a prescription card from Humana Ins., please stop in and ask how you can sign up for a free membership to the Silver Sneakers program.
The SilverSneakers® Fitness Program is the nation's leading exercise program designed exclusively for older adults. This membership provides access to everything the Northwood Branch has to offer. The classes will use certified instructors to help guide participants through exercises that focus on strength, flexibility, mobility, range of motion, balance, agility, and coordination to improve activities for daily living. SilverSneakers® Muscular Strength and Range of Motion classes are offered on Tuesday and Thursday at 10:30am. Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of motion, and activity for daily living skills. All members are welcome to come and join in on the fun.

New Member Orientation
One of our trained staff will provide a fitness orientation to familiarize you with the machines in the wellness center. Information on basic training principles will be presented, as well as instruction and demonstration of proper technique, form and general use of the strength training and cardio machines. Please schedule an appointment in the Wellness Center. Free to YMCA Members!
Personal Fitness Program
These days, it’s difficult to find quiet time for yourself much less find time to work out. That’s why we have developed PFP. This is a truly unique approach to exercise with the focus on your wellness. Our free 12-week program is personalized to meet your needs and abilities. Our trained staff also will answer questions and offer encouragement.

Fitness Assessment
The YMCA Fitness Assessment is designed to measure your current fitness level by assessing the five components of fitness. The evaluation consists of measuring body composition, cardiovascular fitness, muscle strength, muscle endurance and flexibility. Afterwards, a certified Fitness Specialist will review your results and provide recommendations for your fitness routine. Sign up in the Wellness Center.

Teens 13+
Our Teen policy is strictly enforced to ensure the safety of all of our members.
Teens ages 13-15 may workout in the wellness center on everything except free weights after they go through a teen fitness training orientation. The orientation will teach the teen the rules of the wellness center, gym etiquette, warm-up, cool down, injury prevention and working out on the cardio, cybex, magnum and Freemotion equipment. The teen may workout if an adult is present and with the teen at all times. A teen will not be allowed to workout if they are not following the rules.
Teens ages 16 and older can workout in the wellness center on all of the equipment at any time; however, we do encourage teens to schedule an orientation to get acquainted with the equipment.
Youth (8-12)
Our youth policy is strictly enforced to ensure safety.
All Youth ages 8-12 may workout on the Youth Circuit equipment during designated Youth Circuit Fitness Hours: Monday, Wednesday, Friday 3:00-7:00PM and Saturday 11:00-4:00PM. The youth must complete an orientation with our staff and learn the rules and safety guidelines prior to working out. Parent/guardian must remain with the child the entire time. A child will not be allowed to workout if they are not following the rules.
In addition we offer FREE group exercise classes youth ages 10 and over may attend with their parent/guardian.
Facility and Equipment
Strength Circuit: Magnum and Cybex circuit for a total body workout.
Free Motion: ADA approved cable weight circuit.
BeeFit: Youth circuit for children ages 8 -13.
Cardio Equipment: Treadmills, crosstrainers, stairclimbers, concept 2 rowers, recumbent upright bikes.
Free-weight: Squat racks, smith machine & cable machine, dumbbells up to 130 lbs, multiple benches and bars.
Stretching Zone: Mats, bands, ball, etc.
Group Exercise Room: Suspended wood floor, hand-weights, mats, steps, and bands are provided for classes.
Locker Rooms: Day lockers, (locks and towels are not provided), multiple showers, changing stations and toilets.
Group Exercise – Challenge yourself to exercising with/without music in a group setting and learn how to condition the spirit, mind and body to become healthy. All classes are led by certified instructors and open to all, including ages 10-13 if accompanied by a parent/guardian.
Classes offered: ZUMBA! Step, Powers Step, Total Body, Circuit Training, Yoga, Pilates, Turbo Kick, Strength Training, Indoor Cycling, Water Aerobics and Fitness, Dance Trance Fitness, Silver Sneakers, Balance and Stretch Classes, Ab Blast.

Fees: $33 hour/person, $125 4hours/person, $275 10 hours/person
Child Watch – The child must be a member of the YMCA to attend child watch. Up to 1.5 hours of Free for your convenience while you workout! Staff qualified and trained in quality childcare.
