Wellness Center Rules

  1. Wear fitness apparel for your safety; closed toe, laced athletic footwear is required in the gym at all times!
  2. Bring your own towel and water bottle.
  3. No open containers allowed in the gym.
  4. Please be courteous and allow others to work in during your workouts.
  5. Use collars, DO NOT DROP and re-rack all free-weights!
  6. 25 minute limit on all cardiovascular machines.
  7. For the safety of all, baby strollers/carriers are not allowed in the free-weight section, will not be allowed in the fitness facility during peak hours, and no child may be carried on a treadmill during a workout. Please utilize child watch when possible.

SILVERSNEAKERS®
SILVERSNEAKERS® is a program offered by Humana Ins. and is now available at the Northwood, McGurn and Putnam County YMCA locations. If you currently have Humana Ins. or a prescription card from Humana Ins., please stop in and ask how you can sign up for a free membership to the Silver Sneakers program.

The SilverSneakers® Fitness Program is the nation's leading exercise program designed exclusively for older adults. This membership provides access to everything the Northwood Branch has to offer. The classes will use certified instructors to help guide participants through exercises that focus on strength, flexibility, mobility, range of motion, balance, agility, and coordination to improve activities for daily living. SilverSneakers® Muscular Strength and Range of Motion classes are offered on Tuesday and Thursday at 10:30am. Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of motion, and activity for daily living skills. All members are welcome to come and join in on the fun.

WELCOME PACKAGES - ADULT (16 years +)
Are you new to the Northwood YMCA? Want to GET FIT!
Stop in & ask the Wellness Department staff about SIX FREE one-hour orientation sessions that will introduce you to your fitness facility equipment and techniques for how to become & stay fit.

  1. After four weeks of working out, sign up for a FREE Fitness Assessment helping you to determine your baseline measurements and be provided with a tentative workout plan.
  2. Pick-up a group exercise schedule and plan to attend any or all classes.
  3. Sign up for one of our next YMCA Group Adventurer’s Club adventures.
  4. Check in with Wellness Staff to see which local guest speaker will be next. Let us know what topics you would like to hear about!
  5. Spend time learning new weekly weight lifting techniques and safety.

TEEN (14 - 15 years old)
Our youth policy is strictly enforced to ensure safety and no exceptions will be made.

  1. Earn independence in the gym by signing up and attending a REQUIRED TEEN TRAINING
    course offered 1st week of each month. Sign up in Wellness Center.
  2. Until completion, TEEN’s may work out in gym only if an adult is present & with the teen the entire time.
  3. TEEN’s are not allowed to use treadmills or free weights until they have passed the course.
  4. Training is 6 hours long over a 3 day period.

YOUTH ( 8 - 13 years old) BEE FIT YOUTH CIRCUIT
Our youth policy is strictly enforced to ensure safety and no exceptions will be made.

  1. All youth ages 8-13 years old can learn what it means to work out by lifting weights and using cardio equipment. They attend an orientation with our staff, learn proper lifting techniques and equipment adjustments. Availability form must be completed prior to working out.
  2. All participants must have a parent in the facility while working out.
  3. Proper fitness apparel required to workout.

HEALTH & FITNESS OPPORTUNITIES
Get Fit Orientations – Functional Interactive Training – 6 Free 1 hour orientation sessions – learn about the facility’s fitness equipment and good fitness techniques each session that will help you get started learning the maintenance of becoming and staying fit.

Fitness Assessments – Sign up for your Free assessment to determine and develop a
personal work out program. Includes: resting heart rate, blood pressure, weight, body
composition, girth measurements, cardiovascular efficiency, flexibility and muscular endurance. An assessment will help you determine a baseline for you to work from when setting your fitness goals.

Facility and Equipment
Strength Circuit: Magnum and Cybex circuit for a total body workout.
Free Motion:
ADA approved cable weight circuit.
BeeFit: Youth circuit for children ages 8 -13.
Cardio Equipment: Treadmills, crosstrainers, stairclimbers, concept 2 rowers, recumbent upright bikes.
Free-weight:
Squat racks, smith machine & cable machine, dumbbells up to 130 lbs, multiple benches and bars.
Stretching Zone:
Mats, bands, ball, etc.
Group Exercise Room:
Suspended wood floor, hand-weights, mats, steps, and bands are provided for classes.
Locker Rooms:
Day lockers, (locks and towels are not provided), multiple showers, changing stations and toilets.

Group Exercise – Challenge yourself to exercising with/without music in a group setting and learn how to condition the spirit, mind and body to become healthy. All classes are led by certified instructors and open to all, including ages 10-13 if accompanied by a parent/guardian.
Classes offered:
Aerobics, body toning, core conditioning circuit/interval training, cycling, Qigong, stability ball, step (beginning & advanced), stretching, thai bo,
water fitness/aerobics, weight training, yoga. Schedule available in Wellnes.

Personal Training – If you are looking for someone to take you to the next level, to
motivate and guide you through a comprehensive fitness program that helps you meet your goals, complete one of our personal trainer forms out immediately and we will start your work outs as soon as possible.
Fees: $30 hour/person, $15 1/2hour/person,
$115 4hours/person, $250 10 hours/person

Group Adventurer’s Club –YMCA members signing up for fitness adventures inside/outside the Y, enjoy fun and new challenges, meeting new people all while getting fit. T-shirts available for all club members for just $5. Come join other members and have fun!!!
Adventure Activities: Stadium Runners, Crazy Canoers, Running Groupies, Wellness Walkers, Cycling Groupies; Challenges: Bench Press – Family Fitness – Fall Boot Camp – Spring Fitness

Child Watch – Up to 1.5 hours of Free childcare for your convenience while you workout! Weekly & monthly programs entertaining children’s minds, staff qualified and trained in quality childcare and extra special members stopping in sharing their wonderful children with the YMCA.

Guest Speakers – Please stop in and drop off your suggestion with any Wellness Staff and we will work on getting local speakers to stop in and share their knowledge.
