
The following gymnastics & dance programs are available at the Northwood YMCA.
GYMNASTICS PROGRAMS
The gymnastics program is a developmental gymnastics program based on solid
fundamentals and progressions. We aim to give every participant a stronger physical self
esteem through learning gymnastics in a fun and safe environment.
All classes are based on 9-week sessions.
Session 11: August 20 - October 20, 2007
Session 12: October 22 - December 21, 2007
Session 13: January 7 - March 8, 2008
Session 14: March 17 - June 6, 2008

All Star Girls |
Our all Star Girls’ Program uses the national USAG program routines and skills. Everyone must start in the first of three classes and "pass" each level. At the pass of each level the children will receive a certificate of completion that is needed to sign up for the next progressive level. |
RISING STAR
The first of the three progressive gymnastics levels. This class will focus on the beginning technique of gymnastics. Children will learn skill names, correct
technique, and form for each skill. Each child must pass at least 90% of the progression sheets in order to sign up for the second level of classes.

The second of the three progressive gymnastics levels. This class will focus on more skills and the USAG Level 3 routines. Children will learn the basic structure of gymnastics routines along with learning different skill connections and

At the completion of this class, a child will be allowed to try out for the competitive team. |

All Star Boys |
This class uses vault, bars, and floor exercise. The class will focus on the fundamental technique of gymnastics. The class is developmentally based and is geared towards learning gymnastics skills, developing physical self-esteem, and developing overall body strength. |

GYM STARS Afterschool Program |
The gymnastics afterschool program is for girls interested in learning the
fundamental development of gymnastics and dance. The girls will also
participate in other activities such as arts and crafts and swimming while
developing physical self-esteem and overall wellness.

Preschool Gymnastics
Preschool gymnastics classes concentrate on introducing various types of body movement through playing and experimenting. Toddlers will work on improving
coordination, flexibility, and strength while learning basic gymnastics skills. Parents participate during the Bouncing Babies and Rolling Rascals classes.
All classes are based on 9-week sessions.

Bouncing Babies |
This class is for 6 to 17 month old babies and their parents to share some time together in a physically challenging and safe environment. This class is 30 minutes long. Babies can roll, climb, and crawl in a stimulating and open area. This class gives the parents an opportunity to join other parents and toddlers and share the fun!!! |

Rolling Rascals |
This class is for toddlers aged 18 months to 3 years old and their parents. The class is 45 minutes long. Instructor-led activities include light stretching, guided discovery, obstacle courses and fun games. We also promote the beginning social skills such as listening to the teacher, taking turns and following instructions. The parent and the child participate in class together, encouraging physical play and offering the parent an opportunity to guide their children's proper behavior.

Terrific Tumblers |
This class is a one-hour class for children ages 3 and 4 years old. Parents observe their children working independently with the teacher. Strength, flexibility and agility will be taught as a proper foundation for overall body awareness. Children will work on social skills such as following instructions, taking turns, and getting in line while having fun doing gymnastics! Children must be toilet-trained to participate in this class.

Fantastic Flippers |
This class is a one-hour class for children ages 4 and 5 years old and is a continuation of the Terrific Tumblers class. Children work on basic gymnastics skills and overall body strength and agility. Child size equipment is used to develop balance, flexibility and coordination. Safety, proper technique and confidence are taught through gymnastics games and creative challenges.

Saturday Playtime |
Playtime is an opportunity for parents and preschoolers to come in and play on a Saturday morning. This "lightly" structured class will give parents a chance to see what their children are learning in their gymnastics classes. Move & Groove Dance Class |
Parents participate with their toddlers in fun dance activities. Dances are done to children's music as toddlers skip, hop, roll, and dance to the themes of happy and familiar songs. Some "props" are used to inspire the imagination.
