SPRING SWIM LESSONS
There is a reason why the YMCA is referred to as America's Favorite Swim Instructor. In Y classes, not only are you taught in a caring way how to swim, but you also learn about yourself, about safety and rescue skills, and about water activities you can enjoy for a lifetime. Class size is determined by considering safety factors and participants' ages, making sure classes don't get too big to be comfortable. The Northwood Family YMCA offers a Parent-Child Aquatic Program which promotes water enrichment and aquatic readiness activities for children from 6 months up to 36 months of age and their parents. The Preschool Aquatic Program teaches water adjustment and basic swimming skills for children from 3 to 5 years of age. The Youth Aquatic Program for those ages 6 to 15 is oriented toward student-centered learning. It is designed to ensure the student's safety, provide the student with regular, progressive success and make the learning process more enjoyable. All programs incorporate a multi-phase learning process with each level progressing to new skills.

Pike

Class Times: 4:00-4:30 pm, 5:30-6:00 pm
Ray
(3-5 years)
At this level children review previous skills, improve stroke skills, learn more personal, safety, and rescue skills, build endurance, and learn to tread water and perform more progressive diving skills. Children can swim across the pool on their front and back without assistance by the end of this level.
Class Times: 5:00-5:30 pm
Afterschool
swim lesson
This swim lesson group is designed for the children participating in the afterschool program. We will split the children into 3 different levels. The afterschool staff will be responsible for getting your child to the swim lesson and back to afterschool. If you sign your child up one of the other swim lessons and your child participates in the afterschool program you will be responsible for getting them from afterschool to their swim lesson.
Class Times: 4:30-5:00 pm
Polliwog

Guppy

The children continue to practice and build upon basic skills, now performing more skills without the aid of a flotation device. They are introduced to the front and back crawl, sidestroke, breastroke, and elementary backstroke. Children can swim a length of the pool without assistance at the end of this level.
Class Times: *4:30-5:00pm, 5:30-6:00pm, 6:30-7:00 pm
Minnow
(6-12 years)
This is the "initial intermediate" level. The children further refine the lead-up strokes they have learned as their skills become more like those normally used in swimming.
Class Times: *4:30-5:00pm, 6:30-7:00 pm
Pre-Competitive
(6-12 years)
This class has replaced the Fish, Flying Fish & Shark class. Skills to be taught include breaststroke, butterfly, stroke perfection, endurance building, proper dives, and competitive swimming turns. Participants must be at a higher swimming level or have passed our Minnow class. This is an excellent transitional class for the young swimmer to take prior to joining a swim team!
Class Times: 6:00-6:45 pm
Adult
